 "….dedicated to feeding the hungry."THIS ISN'T ABOUT one missed meal….. This is about the little girl who can't concentrate in school because she hasn't eaten today. It's about the elderly woman whose diabetes is growing worse due to poor nutrition; the frightened pregnant woman whose baby will come early because her baby is so undernourished and the disabled veteran whose pension doesn't stretch to meet his/her specialized nutritional needs. Every day, people in Southern California go hungry. And, not just in the inner cities, but in Riverside, Orange, Perris, Hemet, Sun City, San Jacinto, Quail Valley, Fallbrook, Wildomar and other suburbs. This same thing is happening in Northern California, Nevada and Arizona. Men, women and children; the working poor who are in temporary crisis. Perhaps they've been victimized by layoffs or other life events beyond their control. Often they've already used up what little savings they have before asking for help. In our area alone, some time during a year, over 2,400,000 individuals rely on food supplied by Western Eagle Foundation for their next meal. Half are children! |
